The ship: MSC Fantasia

MSC Fantasia is an MSC Cruises Fantasia-class ship introduced in 2008, approximately 333 metres long. Spacious public areas, Piazza San Giorgio, outdoor decks and evening lounges offer different ways to relax between ports. The sea day is a good opportunity to explore without rushing.

Choosing a cabin

Accommodation includes interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins and suites. Compare the actual layout, view and position relative to lifts, pools and venues. MSC Yacht Club is a separate category with restricted areas, service and L’Étoile restaurant; it is not automatically included. The 1380 € price for two does not specify a cabin category.

Dining and drinks

Red Velvet and Il Cerchio d’Oro are the main waiter-service restaurants; L’Africana and Zanzibar are buffet areas. MSC lists full board in the main restaurant and buffet as standard included dining. On board, check your allocated dinner venue and sitting, daily programme and dress guidance. Tell the company about allergies beforehand and speak to the restaurant team.

Speciality restaurants

Check current menus and your fare for speciality dining, including Butcher’s Cut, and orders at La Cantina Toscana. Do not assume bar drinks, speciality coffee, gelato or room service are included. Compare packages with your own consumption; confirm reservations and charges before ordering.

Pools, spa and entertainment

The ship has outdoor pools, the covered I Tropici area, loungers, a gym and sports spaces. Weather, wind and operational conditions may restrict use. MSC Aurea Spa offers treatments and thermal services at extra cost or under a package. Top 18 has separate access conditions and is not presented as generally included in this offer.

For families

Evening shows take place in Teatro L’Avanguardia; other options include live music, lounges, Liquid Disco and the casino. Families have children’s and teen areas including Il Polo Nord. Check age groups, registration and activities on board. Formula Racer, the 4D cinema, games and casino may have extra charges and restrictions.

Internet and preparation

Check internet packages separately; do not assume they are included. At sea, disable mobile roaming to avoid connecting to a maritime satellite mobile network. Keep documents, medication and first-hours essentials in hand luggage. Follow ship time and the daily programme. Confirm the final price, service charges, flights and transfers before payment.

Detailed guides for every port

Terminal transport, 12 sights, a walking route, estimated time and return planning. The lists offer choices rather than requiring every sight to be visited.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Tenerife
Canary Islands · 1 · MSC FANTASIA

Santa Cruz de Tenerife · Tenerife

From the port to the city

This is the embarkation and disembarkation port. From the authorised port exit, central Plaza de España is walkable; the distance depends on the berth. Allow roughly 15–35 minutes, using an authorised shuttle or taxi if docked farther away. Stay out of operational areas. Tenerife South airport requires a separate intercity transfer; it is different from Tenerife North.

12 sights

  1. Plaza de España — a broad square with a reflecting pool, a convenient starting point.
  2. Plaza de la Candelaria — historic façades and pedestrian access to shopping streets.
  3. Palacio de Carta — a historic building by the central squares; admire its façade.
  4. Church of the Conception — a distinctive bell tower in the historic district.
  5. La Noria street — colourful houses and lunch options in the old quarter.
  6. MUNA — the islands’ nature and archaeology museum; allow time for the exhibitions.
  7. TEA — contemporary art and modern architecture; check current exhibitions.
  8. Nuestra Señora de África market — local produce; plan it earlier in the day.
  9. Auditorio de Tenerife — Santiago Calatrava’s architecture and waterfront views outside.
  10. Parque Marítimo César Manrique — seawater pool complex; check admission and services separately.
  11. Palmetum — a palm botanical garden; allow around 1.5–2 hours as a separate option.
  12. García Sanabria Park — shaded paths and sculptures for a relaxed city break.

One-day itinerary

Walking loop: Plaza de España → Candelaria → Church of the Conception → La Noria → market → waterfront and Auditorium → back to port. Allow around 3–4 hours with breaks, excluding all museum visits. Choose one indoor attraction; the Palmetum extends the day.

Other options

La Laguna is a separate option by tram or taxi. Teide needs its own full-day plan, access checks and suitable weather; do not add it to the city loop before embarkation.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Departure on 28 February is at 23:00, but check-in follows the earlier time assigned by MSC. Arrival on 7 March is at 07:00; immediate disembarkation is not guaranteed. Do not book an early flight based solely on that time.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Puerto del Rosario · Fuerteventura
Canary Islands · 2 · MSC FANTASIA

Puerto del Rosario · Fuerteventura

From the port to the city

The port adjoins the town waterfront. Follow the authorised exit; allow about 10–20 minutes on foot from the exit to the centre, depending on the berth. Corralejo, the dunes and Caleta de Fuste need road transport. Check that day’s buses with TIADHE or prearrange a taxi and return; do not assume a free shuttle.

12 sights

  1. Seafront promenade — an easy walk with ocean views near the port.
  2. Playa Chica — a town sandy beach for a short break; follow beach flags.
  3. Unamuno House Museum — a reminder of the writer’s exile in 1924.
  4. Nuestra Señora del Rosario church — a traditional church by the central square.
  5. Sculpture park — outdoor artworks distributed across streets and squares.
  6. El Pescador de Viejas — a sculpture honouring local fishing traditions.
  7. Ofrenda al Mar — another stop on the town’s sculpture trail.
  8. Playa Blanca — a longer beach south of the centre; plan transport separately.
  9. Tetir — an inland village, an alternative requiring road transport.
  10. La Oliva — a historic settlement for a separate route beyond the capital.
  11. Corralejo dunes — northern sand landscapes; transport and a return buffer are needed.
  12. Caleta de Fuste and El Castillo beach — a separate beach option by road.

One-day itinerary

Short walking route: port exit → promenade → Playa Chica → central square and church → Unamuno House Museum → sculptures → port. Allow around 2.5–3.5 hours with a museum visit and breaks, plus about an hour for lunch. Choose a separate half-day plan for the dunes instead of the full town loop.

Other options

The twelve places are choices, not a single walking itinerary. The northern island route and Caleta de Fuste lie in different directions; choose one and arrange the return.

Practical advice and return to the ship

The call on 1 March is 09:00–17:00. Current information lists weekday opening for the house museum; recheck Monday access and local holidays. Wind and currents can be strong. For trips out of town, allow at least 60–90 minutes of contingency before all-aboard, in addition to travel time.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Funchal · Madeira
Canary Islands · 3 · MSC FANTASIA

Funchal · Madeira

From the port to the city

Follow the authorised route from the cruise terminal to the waterfront and centre. Depending on the berth, allow around 20–40 minutes on foot; a taxi or available shuttle saves walking. Identify your return point: the yacht marina is not the cruise terminal. For Monte, use the cable car if operating that day or road transport; check official status before buying tickets.

12 sights

  1. Avenida do Mar — waterfront boulevard overlooking the bay and ships.
  2. Sé Cathedral — a historic central church with a rich artistic heritage.
  3. Avenida Arriaga — pedestrian spaces, cafés and an easy route through the centre.
  4. Municipal Garden — a green stop with varied plants and shaded places.
  5. Mercado dos Lavradores — fruit, flowers and local produce; confirm prices before buying.
  6. Old Town — narrow streets and restaurants in Zona Velha.
  7. Rua de Santa Maria — painted doors add character to the old quarter.
  8. São Tiago Fortress — a yellow waterfront fort; check interior access.
  9. Praça do Município — historic buildings and Funchal’s distinctive paving.
  10. Santa Clara Convent — a cultural visit uphill from the centre; check opening hours.
  11. Monte — a hillside district with a church and views; separate transport is needed.
  12. Monte Palace Tropical Garden — a separate garden visit with time for ascent and return.

One-day itinerary

Walking route: terminal → Avenida do Mar → Municipal Garden → cathedral → market → Rua de Santa Maria → São Tiago Fortress → waterfront → terminal. Allow 4–5 hours including lunch and breaks. If choosing Monte, shorten the town loop and allow roughly 2–3 additional hours for transport, queues and a garden; these are planning estimates, not a timetable.

Other options

Monte wicker sledges are a separate paid attraction and do not finish at the ship: onward transport is needed. Cabo Girão, levadas and the island’s east require a separate excursion; do not add them all to a town day.

Practical advice and return to the ship

The call on 2 March is 10:00–20:00. Madeira belongs to Portugal and is not part of the Canary Islands. Follow ship time; wet paving and steep streets call for suitable shoes. Return before all-aboard and avoid relying on a last-minute cable car or distant excursion.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Arrecife · Lanzarote
Canary Islands · 4 · MSC FANTASIA

Arrecife · Lanzarote

From the port to the city

Check whether the ship uses a nearer berth around Puerto Naos or a farther one at Puerto de los Mármoles. Walking to the old centre may take about 20–30 minutes from the nearer area and 45–60 minutes or more from the farther one. These are not guaranteed times. Follow the authorised exit and use a taxi or available shuttle if appropriate. The yacht marina is not necessarily your terminal.

12 sights

  1. Charco de San Ginés — a lagoon with boats and white houses in old Arrecife.
  2. San Ginés church — a historic church and pleasant square by the lagoon.
  3. San Ginés quarter — fishing heritage, small streets and traditional façades.
  4. Puente de las Bolas — the distinctive bridge towards the coastal castle.
  5. San Gabriel Castle — an island defensive structure; check interior access.
  6. Calle León y Castillo — the main central shopping stroll.
  7. Seafront promenade — sea views connecting the centre and beach.
  8. Parque Islas Canarias — a convenient break on the waterfront route.
  9. Islote de Fermina — a waterfront space associated with César Manrique’s design; check access.
  10. El Reducto beach — a town beach for a break when sea conditions allow.
  11. San José Castle and MIAC — contemporary art in a historic fort beyond the short central loop.
  12. Marina Lanzarote — boats, restaurants and a waterfront link towards Puerto Naos.

One-day itinerary

Town route: Charco de San Ginés → church → León y Castillo → Puente de las Bolas → San Gabriel exterior → promenade → El Reducto → return. Allow 3–4 hours with breaks, plus berth transfers and lunch. Choose a museum or beach rather than entering every attraction.

Other options

Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes are separate island excursions requiring transport and tickets. They are not walkable Arrecife sights; do not combine them all with the full town route.

Practical advice and return to the ship

The call on 4 March is 08:00–18:00. Save the berth name and taxi pickup point. Allow time for the port walk back and security; for an out-of-town excursion add 60–90 minutes of contingency before all-aboard.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Gran Canaria
Canary Islands · 5 · MSC FANTASIA

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria · Gran Canaria

From the port to the city

At the usual Santa Catalina berths, the park of the same name is close to the port. Allow roughly 15–30 minutes on foot from the authorised exit to Las Canteras. Historic Vegueta is a separate district to the south: use a Guaguas Municipales city bus or taxi. A road transfer may take around 15–25 minutes, subject to traffic. Check the exact berth and current route.

12 sights

  1. Santa Catalina Park — a useful starting point between port and beach.
  2. Las Canteras beach — a long urban beach with a lively promenade.
  3. Mercado del Puerto — a historic market building and food venues in the north.
  4. Poema del Mar aquarium — marine ecosystems; allow 1.5–2 hours and check tickets.
  5. Elder Museum — interactive science beside Santa Catalina Park.
  6. Castillo de la Luz — a historic fort housing the Martín Chirino foundation.
  7. Alfredo Kraus Auditorium — architecture and ocean views at the end of Las Canteras.
  8. Plaza de Santa Ana — a historic ensemble with well-known dog sculptures.
  9. Santa Ana Cathedral — a key Vegueta landmark; check tower access.
  10. Casa de Colón — a museum of Atlantic connections, not Columbus’s birthplace.
  11. Museo Canario — archaeology and the culture of Gran Canaria’s indigenous people.
  12. Calle Triana — pedestrian shopping and interesting façades near Vegueta.

One-day itinerary

Balanced day: taxi or bus to Vegueta → Santa Ana square → cathedral → Casa de Colón → Triana → transport back to Santa Catalina → short Las Canteras stroll → port. Allow 5–6 hours with lunch and transfers, choosing one museum. An easier walking option is Santa Catalina → market → Las Canteras → port, around 2–3 hours without a long beach stop.

Other options

The aquarium is a good alternative to the historical museums. Walking the full promenade to the Auditorium and back is longer; do not automatically add it to Vegueta and several museums. Maspalomas is a separate excursion in the island’s south.

Practical advice and return to the ship

The call on 5 March is 07:00–19:00. Early arrival does not mean museums are open. Check opening hours, buses and beach flags. Allow 45–60 minutes of extra contingency before all-aboard, especially when returning from Vegueta.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Santa Cruz de La Palma · La Palma
Canary Islands · 6 · MSC FANTASIA

Santa Cruz de La Palma · La Palma

From the port to the city

The historic centre is near the port and suits an independent walking day. Allow roughly 10–20 minutes from the authorised exit to the old town, depending on the berth. Follow pedestrian signs. The island’s interior, observatories and mountain roads require separate transport; map distance does not reflect bends and elevation.

12 sights

  1. Plaza de España — a Renaissance architectural ensemble in the capital’s heart.
  2. El Salvador church — a historic church above the square with a richly decorated interior.
  3. Town Hall — a distinctive historic façade on the main square.
  4. Calle Real — the main historic shopping axis with traditional houses.
  5. Avenida Marítima balconies — wooden galleries and colourful seaside façades.
  6. Plaza del Borrero — a small atmospheric stop among the old streets.
  7. Plaza de la Alameda — the northern end of a relaxed central walk.
  8. Barco de la Virgen — a caravel replica housing a naval museum, not an operating ship.
  9. Santa Catalina Castle — a reminder of the island’s defence against pirates.
  10. San Francisco and Island Museum — a convent complex with art collections.
  11. Santo Domingo church — religious art and a detour along higher streets.
  12. Town beach — dark volcanic sand; swimming depends on flags and sea conditions.

One-day itinerary

Walking route: port → Calle Real → Plaza de España and El Salvador → Borrero square → Avenida Marítima balconies → Alameda and museum ship → waterfront → port. Allow 3–4 hours with coffee and one museum; with lunch and beach, about 5 hours. The higher churches and San Francisco museum are optional detours.

Other options

For nature, choose a prearranged excursion with a clear return time. Roque de los Muchachos and Caldera de Taburiente are not extensions of the short town walk. Check access to volcanic areas and trails beforehand.

Practical advice and return to the ship

The call on 6 March is 08:00–18:00. This is La Palma, not Las Palmas on Gran Canaria or Palma on Mallorca. Wear shoes suitable for cobbles and check Saturday museum hours. For a mountain excursion, allow 60–90 minutes of extra contingency before all-aboard.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.
