The ship MSC Virtuosa

MSC Virtuosa belongs to MSC Cruises’ Meraviglia family. It is approximately 331 metres long with 2,421 cabins. The covered Galleria Virtuosa promenade brings together dining, shops and social spaces, including for cooler April evenings. The sea day provides time to explore the ship between active port visits.

Choosing a cabin

Options include interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins, suites and the separate MSC Yacht Club area. Windows provide daylight; balconies offer private outdoor space. Check the deck, view and location relative to lifts and public spaces. The 1320 € price for two does not specify a cabin category or include Yacht Club.

Dining and drinks

Standard meals in the main restaurants and buffet are included under MSC’s rules; venues follow the daily programme. The main restaurant offers served dinners and menus, while the buffet provides a more flexible choice. Dinner arrangements depend on your booked experience. Notify dietary requirements beforehand. Check drinks, special items and room service separately.

Speciality restaurants

Additional dining choices include Indochine’s French-Vietnamese cuisine and Hola! Tacos & Cantina’s Latin American flavours. Check menus, prices, reservations and package terms; do not treat them as part of the standard offer. Check cocktails at Starship Club with Rob the robot bartender separately too.

Pools, spa and entertainment

The ship offers pools, whirlpools, Savannah Aquapark and relaxation areas. Follow daily opening times, weather restrictions and age and height requirements. Evening theatre and music programmes vary; check the April 2027 shows onboard. MSC lists Carousel Lounge productions as an additional paid option. Aurea Spa offers thermal facilities and treatments, which are not assumed included in this price.

For families

Children’s and teen clubs organise age-based games and activities, with a LEGO partnership. Check registration, opening times, requirements for younger children and which activities cost extra. Clubs do not imply unlimited individual childcare.

Internet and preparation

MSC for Me helps with orientation and daily planning; check supported functions before travelling. Internet access is separate from connecting to the ship’s network and may require a package. Disable mobile data at sea to avoid maritime roaming. Prepare documents for every country, online check-in and boarding time; save tickets and contacts offline.

Detailed guides for every port

Terminal transport, 12 sights, a walking route, estimated time and return planning. The lists offer choices rather than requiring every sight to be visited.

Barcelona
Mediterranean · 1 · MSC VIRTUOSA

Barcelona

From the port to the city

Check the terminal in your documents. From the Adossat quay use the Cruise Bus or a taxi; do not assume a short walk through the port. The shuttle connects the terminals with city transport near Drassanes. Allow roughly 30–60 minutes for disembarkation, waiting and reaching the centre; this is a planning estimate, not a timetable.

12 sights

  1. Columbus Monument — a landmark between the old town and the waterfront.
  2. La Rambla — a lively central pedestrian promenade.
  3. Plaça Reial — arcades and palms beside La Rambla.
  4. Gothic Quarter — narrow streets and historic squares.
  5. Barcelona Cathedral — a Gothic church in the old-town heart.
  6. Plaça Sant Jaume — the city's historic civic centre.
  7. Santa Maria del Mar — a church in the El Born district.
  8. Port Vell — the old harbour with waterfront paths.
  9. Barceloneta — a maritime neighbourhood and beach promenade.
  10. Sagrada Família — Gaudí's basilica; plan interior visits separately.
  11. Casa Batlló — distinctive Gaudí architecture on Passeig de Gràcia.
  12. Park Güell — hillside terraces and mosaics outside the old centre.

One-day itinerary

Drassanes → Columbus Monument → La Rambla → Plaça Reial → Gothic Quarter → cathedral → El Born → Port Vell. Approximately 4–5 km and 3–4 hours with short stops, excluding museum visits. On 20 April fit sightseeing around your assigned check-in time; 19:00 is the sailing time. On 27 April plan around your flight and luggage after disembarkation.

Other options

Choose a separate time block and timed tickets for Sagrada Família, Park Güell or the Gaudí houses. They are outside the compact port-side walk.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Keep documents and luggage secure on La Rambla. Check the current Cruise Bus service and boarding deadline. At the start of the cruise return for your MSC check-in appointment, rather than just before sailing.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

La Goulette: Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis
Mediterranean · 2 · MSC VIRTUOSA

La Goulette: Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis

From the port to the city

La Goulette is the port; Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said are separate places. A prearranged transfer or taxi with an agreed route, price and return is the simplest plan. Allow roughly 20–40 minutes to Carthage or Sidi Bou Said and 30–60 minutes to central Tunis, depending on traffic. Do not rely on an unverified TGM timetable for this future call.

12 sights

  1. Antonine Baths — substantial Roman remains beside the sea in Carthage.
  2. Byrsa Hill — the historic hill of ancient Carthage.
  3. Punic ports — traces of Carthage's maritime past.
  4. Roman theatre — an ancient monument within the archaeological area.
  5. La Malga cisterns — remains of the Roman city's water infrastructure.
  6. Old Sidi Bou Said lanes — white façades and blue doors on the hillside.
  7. Sidi Bou Said viewpoints — the bay and marina below the village.
  8. Ennejma Ezzahra palace — Baron d'Erlanger's home associated with musical heritage.
  9. Bab el Bhar — a historic gateway to the Tunis medina.
  10. Tunis souks — market lanes with crafts and traditional goods.
  11. Zitouna Mosque — a major medina landmark; check visitor access.
  12. Kasbah area — a historic square and civic buildings in Tunis.

One-day itinerary

Lower-transfer option: terminal → drive to the Antonine Baths → Punic ports → drive to Sidi Bou Said → walk through the old lanes to the viewpoints → return to the terminal. Allow 5–6 hours overall including transfers; the village walk is around 1–2 km with an uphill section. Do not automatically add the Tunis medina to this route.

Other options

An alternative is a day in the Tunis medina: Bab el Bhar → souks → the Zitouna Mosque area → Kasbah. Choose one main area rather than trying to visit all 12 places.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Supplied schedule: 22 April, 08:00–18:00. Plan to reach the terminal around 16:30, or earlier if MSC sets an earlier deadline. Check Tunisia entry documents for your nationality. Confirm access, dress requirements and opening times for religious sites; not all interiors admit visitors.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Palermo and Monreale
Mediterranean · 3 · MSC VIRTUOSA

Palermo and Monreale

From the port to the city

Allow around 20–35 minutes on foot from the cruise terminal to Teatro Massimo, depending on the berth and exit. Follow the designated port exit route. The cathedral and Norman Palace are farther away. Monreale is a separate town: plan a taxi or verified bus, roughly 30–60 minutes each way in normal traffic, plus waiting.

12 sights

  1. Teatro Massimo — a grand opera house and useful old-town starting point.
  2. Capo market — traditional market life and Sicilian street food.
  3. Palermo Cathedral — architecture shaped by several historical periods.
  4. Norman Palace — a historic royal residence.
  5. Palatine Chapel — renowned mosaics; ticketed entry.
  6. Quattro Canti — the Baroque crossroads of the historic quarters.
  7. Piazza Pretoria — a monumental fountain amid historic buildings.
  8. Martorana — a Piazza Bellini church known for its mosaics.
  9. San Cataldo — the church with distinctive red domes beside Martorana.
  10. Ballarò market — busy lanes and local flavours.
  11. La Cala — the historic small harbour and waterfront walk.
  12. Monreale Cathedral — Norman art and golden mosaics outside Palermo.

One-day itinerary

Terminal → Teatro Massimo → Capo market → cathedral → Norman Palace exterior → Quattro Canti → Piazza Pretoria → Piazza Bellini → La Cala → terminal. Around 6–7 km and 4–5 hours with short stops. Add time for the Palatine Chapel and shorten the rest if visiting inside.

Other options

Monreale can replace part of the central walk. The cathedral and cloister are separate visits; check current tickets and services. The detailed list is a set of choices, not a one-day checklist.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Call: 23 April, 08:00–18:00. Aim to reach the terminal around 16:30, respecting any earlier MSC deadline. Check palace and chapel opening times, as access can be restricted. Markets are livelier earlier in the day.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Naples and the Pompeii option
Mediterranean · 4 · MSC VIRTUOSA

Naples and the Pompeii option

From the port to the city

If berthed at Stazione Marittima, Piazza Municipio and Castel Nuovo are around 10–20 minutes on foot after leaving the terminal. Check your actual berth. Continue on foot or use the metro from Municipio for the historic centre. Pompeii requires a separate transfer to the archaeological park; it is not part of a short city walk.

12 sights

  1. Castel Nuovo — the port-side castle also called Maschio Angioino.
  2. Galleria Umberto I — a covered shopping arcade with a glass roof.
  3. Piazza del Plebiscito — the broad square beside the Royal Palace.
  4. Royal Palace — a historic residence with museum rooms.
  5. Teatro San Carlo — the historic opera house beside the palace.
  6. Via Toledo — a central shopping street full of city life.
  7. Gesù Nuovo — a church with a distinctive stone façade on its namesake square.
  8. Santa Chiara — a religious complex with a celebrated tiled cloister.
  9. Spaccanapoli — the historic route through the old quarters.
  10. San Gregorio Armeno — a street of traditional nativity craft workshops.
  11. Naples Cathedral — the church associated with the veneration of San Gennaro.
  12. Sansevero Chapel — home of the Veiled Christ; plan a timed reservation.

One-day itinerary

Terminal → Castel Nuovo → Galleria Umberto I → Piazza del Plebiscito → Via Toledo → Gesù Nuovo → Santa Chiara → Spaccanapoli → San Gregorio Armeno → back to port. Around 6–7 km and 4–5 hours with a break, excluding lengthy museum visits. The waterfront can replace part of the route.

Other options

Pompeii is an alternative to a full Naples day. Check tickets, the correct entrance and current transport; allow roughly 6–7 hours terminal-to-terminal, including 2–3 hours in the park and a buffer. Do not combine Pompeii, Vesuvius and the whole city during this call.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Call: 24 April, 06:00–17:00. Early arrival does not mean museums are open. Aim to return to the terminal around 15:30 or earlier as required by MSC. Check advance reservations for Sansevero Chapel. For Pompeii check the official calendar and Saturday transport.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Livorno: Florence and Pisa options
Mediterranean · 5 · MSC VIRTUOSA

Livorno: Florence and Pisa options

From the port to the city

Livorno is the port; Florence and Pisa are separate cities. Porto di Livorno 2000 offers a downtown shuttle; confirm the actual stops and conditions locally. Do not walk through the industrial port without a designated route. Rail trips need an additional transfer to Livorno Centrale. As a planning estimate, the rail leg is around 20–30 minutes to Pisa and 80–100 minutes to Florence, excluding transfers and waiting. Check current connections.

12 sights

  1. Livorno's Venezia Nuova — canals, bridges and historic warehouses.
  2. Fortezza Nuova — a fortress surrounded by city canals.
  3. Fortezza Vecchia — the historic defensive complex beside the harbour.
  4. Central Market — a 19th-century covered market; check opening.
  5. Piazza Grande and cathedral — a starting point for central Livorno.
  6. Terrazza Mascagni — sea views and distinctive chequered paving.
  7. Florence cathedral square — the cathedral, bell tower and baptistery exteriors.
  8. Piazza della Signoria — Florence's historic political centre.
  9. Ponte Vecchio — the shop-lined bridge over the Arno.
  10. Santa Croce — a Florentine basilica with notable historic tombs.
  11. Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli — cathedral, baptistery and Leaning Tower.
  12. Pisa's Arno riverfront — city views along the route from the station.

One-day itinerary

A relaxed local day: shuttle downtown → Piazza Grande → cathedral → Venezia Nuova → Fortezza Nuova → Central Market exterior → Fortezza Vecchia and harbour views. About 4–5 km and 3–4 hours with breaks. Terrazza Mascagni is a separate addition by local transport or a longer walk.

Other options

For Florence: Santa Maria Novella station → cathedral square → Piazza della Signoria → Ponte Vecchio → back to the station. The walk is around 4 km and 3–4 hours; allow 8–9 hours including transfers. Pisa is a closer alternative: station → river → Piazza dei Miracoli → return, about 4–5 km. Choose one city rather than promising both during this call.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Call: 25 April, 09:00–20:00. Aim to return to the terminal around 18:30, or earlier as MSC requires; select return trains with an additional buffer. 25 April is an Italian national holiday and falls on Sunday in 2027: check holiday transport and market and museum openings. Do not assume the shuttle serves the railway station.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.

Marseille
Mediterranean · 6 · MSC VIRTUOSA

Marseille

From the port to the city

Your cruise terminal may be far from the old centre. Check the berth and MSC shuttle. The official tourist office describes a port shuttle to La Joliette and bus 35T on cruise days; access and stops depend on the terminal. La Joliette to the Old Port is about 25 minutes on foot. Allow roughly 45–75 minutes for disembarkation, waiting and transfers, and check the last return service.

12 sights

  1. Old Port — Marseille's maritime heart with boats and waterfront cafés.
  2. Le Panier — an old quarter of narrow lanes and small squares.
  3. Vieille Charité — a historic complex with a courtyard and cultural venues.
  4. La Major Cathedral — the monumental cathedral beside the sea.
  5. Mucem — a museum of Mediterranean civilisations with contemporary architecture.
  6. Fort Saint-Jean — fortifications and panoramic sea views.
  7. Notre-Dame de la Garde — a hilltop basilica with views; allow a separate journey.
  8. Saint-Victor Abbey — a historic religious landmark south of the harbour.
  9. La Canebière — the well-known avenue leading from the Old Port.
  10. Palais Longchamp — monumental architecture, fountains and a park.
  11. Pharo — a park and views over the Old Port entrance.
  12. La Joliette and the Docks — a renewed harbour district with historic warehouse buildings.

One-day itinerary

La Joliette → La Major Cathedral → Mucem exterior → Fort Saint-Jean → Old Port → Le Panier → Vieille Charité → return to La Joliette. Around 4–5 km and 3–4 hours with breaks, excluding lengthy museum visits. The climb to Notre-Dame de la Garde is outside this compact route.

Other options

With sufficient margin, replace a museum stop with transport to Notre-Dame de la Garde. Palais Longchamp needs a separate transfer. Boat trips and the Calanques are not a reliable add-on to this eight-hour call because of duration and weather.

Practical advice and return to the ship

Call: 26 April, 10:00–18:00. Aim to reach the terminal around 16:30 or earlier as MSC requires; leave the centre with time for waiting and security. It is Monday: check museum opening days and any temporary shuttle changes.

Times and distances are estimates. Before travelling check opening days, tickets and current transport using the official sources below. The 2027 port schedule is not a guaranteed local transport timetable. The ship determines the all-aboard deadline, which takes priority over this suggested plan.
