Getting from the port to the city
Lisbon is the embarkation city, rather than a normal port call. Alfama, the squares beside the Tagus and the hilltop viewpoints deserve a separate day before boarding. Arrive the previous day if possible, allowing time to explore and reducing the risk of a delayed flight.
Jardim do Tabaco and Santa Apolónia terminals are close to the historic districts, but check your documents for the exact building. Santa Apolónia railway and Blue Line metro stations are nearby. With luggage, take a taxi or prebooked transfer to the correct entrance; do not navigate using only the port name.

One-day itinerary
For the day before sailing: Praça do Comércio → Rua Augusta → Rossio → Sé Cathedral → Alfama → Santa Luzia → Portas do Sol → waterfront. Expect steep lanes and steps. Allow a separate visit for the castle; Belém is a different excursion and is unwise immediately before boarding.
Planning estimate: 3–4 hours for this walking loop with breaks and exterior views; museum visits are extra. This is a suggested time budget, not an official duration. On 11 July follow your check-in appointment, rather than the 16:00 sailing time.
If you have more time
These are choices, not a checklist to complete in a single day. Interior visits, out-of-town excursions and the beach require additional time. Check current tickets, access and opening hours.
Pause for coffee and a pastel de nata, or a Portuguese fish lunch. Check menus and prices first in tourist districts; avoid a long lunch immediately before check-in.
Important tips
Lisbon has slippery paving and strong July sun. Bring comfortable shoes and water. Trams can be crowded; do not rely on them as your only return option with luggage.
Before going ashore save the exact terminal, ship contact number and all-aboard time. Allow for traffic, queues and document checks. Suggested durations are personal planning estimates, not confirmed timetables.
