Getting from the port to the city
Motril is the Costa Tropical port and a gateway for Granada excursions. An independent local day offers sugar heritage, churches and views from the sanctuary. Granada and the Alhambra are a separate objective requiring advance tickets, not a spontaneous addition.
The port and historic centre are separate; take a taxi or confirmed shuttle. Check the exit and return pickup point. No unconfirmed bus number, fare or guaranteed frequency is given here. Walking within the centre is more convenient than a long approach along port roads.

One-day itinerary
Suggestion: transfer to the centre → Plaza de España and Encarnación Church → Sugar Museum if open → Parque de los Pueblos de América → Virgen de la Cabeza Sanctuary → lunch → return. A beach afternoon is an alternative requiring separate transport, not a compulsory part of the loop.
Budget approximately 3–4 hours for the town route with one museum, plus transport and lunch. This is a suggested time allowance. The supplied schedule shows 07:00–19:00 on 14 July. For the Alhambra, make a separate plan with a timed ticket and reliable return transport.
If you have more time
These are choices, not a checklist to complete in a single day. Interior visits, out-of-town excursions and the beach require additional time. Check current tickets, access and opening hours.
Local seafood, sardine skewers and traditional sweets are food options. Check portions and prices locally. Sampling the cuisine can be part of the route without travelling far to a restaurant.
Important tips
Plan shade and breaks in July; the climb to the sanctuary can be demanding. Check small museums’ opening hours. Do not rely on advertised minimum driving times to Granada: they exclude waiting, parking and access to the Alhambra.
Before going ashore save the exact terminal, ship contact number and all-aboard time. Allow for traffic, queues and document checks. Suggested durations are personal planning estimates, not confirmed timetables.
